Francesco Biondani is an industrial PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Verona. He received his BSc in Computer Science in 2020 and his MSc in Computer Science in 2023, both from the University of Verona. His doctoral research is carried out in collaboration with Leonardo S.p.A. under the supervision of Franco Fummi.

His work studies digital twins and Industry 5.0, with particular attention to predictive maintenance and to the use of operational data for understanding the health and behaviour of complex industrial systems. The aim is not only to reproduce a plant or asset digitally, but to build virtual representations that can support diagnosis, maintenance decisions and the evaluation of how a system may evolve under changing operating conditions.

His research also covers data-driven and human-centred digital-twin techniques and the generation and use of synthetic data for industrial analysis. Application work includes fault injection and simulation for aircraft and industrial systems, connecting digital-twin models with the broader ESD research on multi-domain faults, functional safety and validation before physical deployment.
