Cristian Turetta is a research assistant at the University of Verona and a member of IoT4Care. He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Verona in 2017 and 2020. His early research focused on Active and Assisted Living, Internet of Things systems and IoT security, and has since developed into a broader programme on wireless and contactless sensing for people and their environment.
His work spans low-cost body-area networks and Bluetooth sensing, WiFi Channel State Information, smart-home platforms and machine-learning methods for human activity recognition and occupancy sensing. A recurring objective is to extract useful information from sensing infrastructure that is inexpensive and deployable in ordinary environments rather than requiring specialised motion-capture laboratories.
More recent research investigates contactless physiological and behavioural sensing, including mmWave radar for breathing-rate estimation, WiFi-based sensing and lightweight models for fall detection. Cristian has collaborated extensively with Graziano Pravadelli and Florenc Demrozi on IoT4Care research concerning daily-life assistance, healthcare monitoring and Parkinson’s disease, and contributes to the group’s transition from wearable sensing toward multimodal and contactless systems.
