Mario Libro is an Industrial PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Verona and a member of ESD. He received his BSc in Computer Science in 2019 and his MSc with honours in Computer Engineering for Robotics and Smart Industry in 2023, both from the University of Verona. His doctoral work is supported by BuildTrust, a company working in the construction sector.
His research focuses on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for cyber-physical production systems. A central problem is interoperability: modern manufacturing systems are described through several engineering languages and data models, yet the information carried by those descriptions has to remain consistent across design, integration and operation. Mario studies how modelling languages can be connected with ontologies so that engineering concepts and relationships are represented explicitly rather than remaining implicit in tool-specific formats.
This work brings together MBSE, Industrial IoT and semantic technologies for manufacturing. It aims to make production-system descriptions easier to integrate, query and reuse across tools, while supporting the broader ESD objective of building coherent digital representations of complex industrial systems from design models through to deployed cyber-physical infrastructure.
