Enrico Fraccaroli is a postdoctoral researcher in ESD whose work connects electronic design automation, cyber-physical systems and industrial digitalisation. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Verona with a thesis on a holistic approach to functional safety for networked cyber-physical systems, after earlier work on virtual-platform integration for smart-system simulation.
His research has addressed the modelling and simulation of heterogeneous systems across several abstraction levels. This includes manipulation and abstraction of analog and mixed-signal descriptions, transistor-level and HDL tooling, multi-domain fault models spanning electrical, mechanical and thermal behaviour, fault injection, network synthesis and simulation-based functional-safety analysis. A central goal is to make faults and cross-domain effects observable early enough that they can be studied before a system reaches physical deployment.
Enrico has also worked on wearable IoT for Parkinson’s disease and on distributed embedded-system design. He was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship for STRATEGUS, carried out between the University of Verona and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His current industrial research uses digital twins and deterministic simulation to validate and optimise cyber-physical production systems, bringing together models of machinery, communication and control software.
Projects
STRATEGUS
STRATEgic GUide to Smart manufacturing
A Horizon Europe MSCA Global Fellowship developing digital-twin, simulation and scheduling methods for safely integrating new technologies into existing manufacturing plants, in collaboration with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Bip-Bip
Bip-Bip: a wearable smart system to prevent freezing of gait in people affected by Parkinson’s disease.
A Veneto FSE research project on wearable sensing and machine-learning support for anticipating freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease, with the goal of triggering assistance before or during a freezing episode.
